DR. APPLES: THE EYE
Animated Horror Short Film
Seeking investors and aligned partners to bring the film into production.
A reckless teenage wizard reaches for a dangerous new level of power—and pays for it with the first real fracture in his legend. Dr. Apples: The Eye is a dark fantasy horror short rooted in Southern Gothic atmosphere, physical transformation, and the moment curiosity curdles into consequence.
OVERVIEW
Dr. Apples: The Eye is a Claymation inspired animated short film that explores the darker origin of Dr. Apples through forbidden magic, bodily mutation, and the seduction of power. Set in New Orleans in 1942, the film follows a gifted, arrogant teenage wizard who ignores a warning, casts the spell anyway, and emerges changed.
This is not a broad fantasy adventure. It is a contained, eerie descent built around secrecy, transformation, and the cost of becoming more than you were meant to be. The horror comes from consequence, not noise.
LOGLINE
A reckless teenage wizard chases a dangerous new level of power, unaware that the spell he casts will become the first fracture in his legend.
TONE
Dark fantasy horror rooted in Southern Gothic atmosphere. Restrained, tense, and unsettling, the film builds through secrecy, forbidden magic, and physical transformation. The fear comes from watching a child reach for power before he understands what it will take from him.

VISUAL STYLE
The Eye blends BJD-inspired claymation with 1940s period styling and dark Southern Gothic mood. Characters are sculptural, theatrical, and slightly unnatural—beautiful enough to draw you in, eerie enough to warn you away. Dr. Apples carries a rougher clay texture that reflects the raw instability of his magic, while Miss Toutant and Miss BaRule feel older, smoother, and far more controlled. The movement is designed on twos, frame by frame, to preserve a handmade, uncanny rhythm.
SYNOPSIS
Left alone in Miss Toutant’s home during a storm, fourteen-year-old Dr. Apples decides ordinary magic is no longer enough. Already gifted, arrogant, and fascinated by hunting otherworldly beings, he gathers what he needs and casts a spell to amplify his power. The spell works—but violently. His body mutates, his control breaks, and his left eye becomes something unnatural. When he wakes, one eye is still human. The other can see across dimensions. Instead of fear, he smiles. The hunt has just expanded.
Dr. Apples: The Eye functions as a powerful entry point into the darker mythology of the Dr. Apples universe. It is a prequel built to stand on its own while opening a larger world of folklore, danger, and obsession. The project already carries recognition for its screenplay and visual concept, with 20+ selections, finalist placements, awards, and grants supporting the material before animation has begun.
